On March 16th, 2024, we will be getting into part one of Joy James’ In Pursuit of Revolutionary Love. For this next session, we are working with Queer Dreams!

Queer Dreams wants to create safer spaces for Queer Caribbeans of all genders and queer identities. In this space, they aim to celebrate the full and intersecting identities without having to hide any part of who they are.

They want to hold space for creating a sustainable community. One of the ways to do that is by hosting this book club/library, and for the first one, we will be discussing a very special book. The Pursuit of Revolutionary Love by Joy James! It explores the intersection of love and social justice, discussing how love can inform and drive revolutionary movements. It delves into how love can be a powerful force for transformative change and resistance against systems of oppression. In James’ argument, Revolutionary Love is what has always, and will continue to, confront repression in fundamental ways.

James analyzes various aspects of activism, highlighting the importance of compassion, solidarity, and empathy in the pursuit of justice and equality.

The book challenges readers to rethink traditional notions of love and to consider its radical potential in creating a more just and compassionate world. The book is a practice in analyzing the legacy of radicalism and discussing what it means to be a revolutionary lover.
